The CO₂ emissions generated by the energy sector are constantly growing: in 2023, they reached a new record high of 37.4 billion tonnes. However, without renewable energy, the increase in emissions in the past five years would have been three times higher. These findings were published in a report of March 2024 by the International Energy Agency (IEA). “The world’s climate ambitions hinge on our ability to make the global energy system much more efficient,” IEA Executive Director Fatih Birol said in November 2023.
“If governments want to keep the 1.5°C goal within reach […], doubling energy efficiency progress this decade is critical.” Yet another example of how necessary the energy transition is, in particular for European countries, which, in a geopolitical scenario as uncertain as the current one, can guarantee energy security and independence for themselves by investing in renewable energy.
The Innovatec Group
Investing in the energy transition involves everyone: governments, citizens, large, small, and medium-sized enterprises. However, it is not always easy to understand in a way that is correct and truly cost-effective. This is why it is useful to rely on established players, such as Innovatec, the first Italian group to be listed on the EGM market at the Milan Stock Exchange. Innovatec is fully integrated with Clean Technology and has been active for over 60 years in leading the energy sector toward sustainability and helping communities become carbon-neutral.
Thanks to its two Business Units that aggregate the group’s companies, Innovatec can guarantee an integrated offer that brings together energy and waste recovery and recycling. If on the one hand, matters relating to the environment and circularity are the preserve of Circularity and Haiki+, on the other hand, with Innovatec Power, Eliospower, Frisbi, and ESI, Innovatec sets itself apart as a single player that can tackle the different aspects of the energy transition.
Innovatec Power and Eliospower
Even before getting into the practical operations of energy efficiency, many verification activities must be carried out: energy diagnosis, designing the best technology mix, and identifying incentives and sources of funding are just a few. Having access to a single point of contact through all phases increases the efficiency of the process. In the Innovatec Group, this role rests with Innovatec Power, an ESCo (Energy Service Company) that offers private individuals, businesses, the public sector, and other bodies – such as, for example, renewable energy communities – integrated energy efficiency services, accompanying clients throughout the entire process, from design to implementation, from testing to maintenance.
This same modus operandi has also been adopted by Eliospower, which specialises in the management and creation of agrivoltaics and ground-mounted photovoltaics, in industrial and agricultural areas, as well as in former quarry, mine, or landfill sites that have been decommissioned and reconditioned. Eliospower also manages authorisation phases and requests for connection to the national electrical grid.
ESI and Frisbi
Sometimes a connection to the national grid is absent and electrification involves complex problems, such as reaching remote places or installing off-grid systems. ESI – which stands for Energy System Integrator – is there to solve these problems, operating both in Italy and abroad. As EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) it creates solar power plants and offers revamping and repowering services. Meanwhile, for wind farms, it manages all civil engineering works such as cable ducts, roads, reinforced concrete foundations, and all electromechanical assemblies. As a System Integrator, ESI oversees the management and creation of renewable energy plants, finding the best solutions for communities, be they villages, hospitals, schools, or businesses. This could also involve the use of innovative energy storage technologies, including lithium-ion and flow batteries, all the way to lead gel and sodium-nickel batteries.
Finally, closing the circle, there is Frisbi, a Benefit Corporation that delivers electricity to businesses and individuals. For example, Frisbi simplifies the management of renewable energy communities by collecting the energy generated and redelivering it to consumers without physical interventions/hardware on the grid and without the need for other suppliers/energy traders or the Energy Services Management public body. The guarantee is to have only 100% renewable energy.
