Editorial statement
The editorial staff of Renewable Matter joins the nationwide general strike called for the entire day of Friday, Feb. 23, 2024, involving workers in the public and private sectors.
The reasons behind the strike are many, but the strongest demand is for an immediate ceasefire in Gaza. The editorial staff of Renewable Matter, which has always been opposed to any war, joins the common appeal to international governments ‒ particularly the Italian government ‒ to work together for an immediate resolution of the ongoing humanitarian crisis.
Sustainability is a broad concept that transcends the boundaries of economics ‒ the main focus of our work ‒ and embraces every aspect of human life: the prosperity and wealth of rich countries cannot be based on the suffering and exploitation of poor ones. This conviction guides us every day in carrying out our information service, which we always try to do to the best of our ability, with respect for ethical and deontological norms and for the people who read us.
Precisely because of this respect, the journalists of Renewable Matter consider it necessary to abstain from their editorial activities for the entire day of Friday, February 23, for a moment of common reflection that they hope, with this statement, to extend to their readers as well.
