The World Circular Economy Forum, which was due to take place in Toronto in September, was postponed to 2021 due to the Covid-19 emergency. The most important international event dedicated to the circular economy does not, however, renounce the 2020 appointment, which turns into an online conference, scheduled for 29 and 30 September.
The WCEF was born in 2017 on the initiative of the Finnish government and the Sitra innovation fund. After the first edition in Finland, the forum took place in 2018 in Japan, then again in Finland and this year was expected to take place for the first time on the American continent. Canada will however host the event in 2021, on dates yet to be determined.
For the moment, the focus is on the organization of the WCEFonline, which will allow - according to Sitra - to share good practices and innovative solutions related to the circular economy, which are essential for a sustainable recovery after the ongoing emergency. “Once we have overcome the immediate crisis, the recession must be met with decisive measures that encourage the transition to a carbon-neutral circular economy. This also helps us make better use of our limited resources,” says Sitra’s President Jyrki Katainen.
